Is Vegan Better For The Environment?

I recently became a vegan, and I have always heard that vegans are more eco-friendly than non-vegans. Is there a scientific basis for this?

Veganism is probably the best lifestyle for living in harmony with the environment. The United Nations recently released a report which states that animal agriculture produces an average of 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions, more than all transportation combined! Furthermore, vegan diets can use up to 120% less energy than meat-based ones.

Veganism also spares critters from becoming dinner. Pasture farming involves vast amounts of land and water, food crops are grown to feed livestock, and forests are razed for grazing land or hunting grounds. As well as deforestation, livestock farming requires huge quantities of other resources like grain and freshwater.

This is a great question and I think we can answer this with a simple “yes” or “no”. In order to have a balanced ecosystem for life, you would need an equal amount of animals and vegetarians. Therefore, if more people become vegetarian than non-vegetarians, there will be less animals on this planet. The Earth’s ability to sustain life as we know it will not be compromised.

Of course it is! Vegans don’t use any non-vegan products like soap or shampoo, and they avoid plastic as much as possible. They also practice recycling, composting, and taking care of the earth. They spend less money on gas, because they drive smaller cars and take public transportation.

If you’re looking for a quick answer, then probably not. It all depends on how you define “better for the environment”. By this I mean if you define it as “better for the animals” then no, because a lot of animals are kept as pets and there is nothing wrong with keeping them as pets. However, if you define it as “better for the Earth” then yes, because the world is a beautiful place and there’s no reason to destroy it.
