Experts Answer: Is Ketchup Vegan? – Vegan4K.com

Is Ketchup Vegan?

Is ketchup vegan? I have been researching this on the internet. So far I have found that some people say yes and others say no. If you can tell me which one is right, please. I heard it has sugar inside which is not vegan-friendly because it was filtered and bleached using animal bone char. Could you please tell me what brand you recommend? Thanks!

Yes. Ketchup is not made with any animal ingredients. It is a tomato based sauce that contains no meat, fish, or poultry.

Very few conventional ketchups are vegan because they usually contain either honey or high fructose corn syrup.

Ketchup is, by definition, vegan since it contains nothing in it that comes from an animal.

Ketchup is just tomatoes and sugar boiled down with vinegar or lemon to cut the acidity.

Ketchup is vegan if the only ingredients are tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, salt and spices.
