Does Vegan Mean Dairy Free?

What does “dairy free” mean? Is it just the absence of dairy? I don’t eat much dairy but I do eat cheese and milk products so I don’t think I can call myself a vegan.

Hey Isaiah, looks like you’re a vegetarian! Vegans are strictly plant-based, which means no animals products whether they be from honey bees or cows. Eating dairy milk and cheese rather than plant-based substitutes isn’t allowed on the vegan diet.

I believe that vegan does mean dairy-free as vegan food does not contain ingredients from animals which suggests that for example, vegan cheese is dairy-free as it does not contain milf from animals such as a cow and goat
